Abrafiltros program recycles 57 million oil filters
The Descarte Consciente Abrafiltros program has recycled more than 57 million used lubricating oil filters since its inception in 2012. The initiative operates across the Brazilian states of São Paulo, Paraná, Espírito Santo, and Mato Grosso do Sul.
Managed by the Brazilian Association of Automotive Filter Companies (ABRAFILTROS), the program addresses environmental regulations regarding the disposal of Class I hazardous waste. To ensure legal compliance and transparency, the process is audited by an independent Results Verification Agent (AVR), which monitors collection, transport, and final recycling destinations.
The reverse logistics network includes 5,677 collection points, such as gas stations, workshops, and dealerships, spanning 500 municipalities. According to ABRAFILTROS Executive President João Moura, the program serves to meet rigorous environmental standards and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) market demands.
