Abrantes honors Eurico Heitor Consciência with new boulevard

The city of Abrantes has named a new boulevard after Eurico Heitor Consciência to honor his memory ten years after his death. The Alameda Eurico Heitor Consciência is located in the city's historic center, near the Maria de Lourdes Pintasilgo Basic School.

Consciência was a lawyer, professor, journalist, and former local official who significantly influenced the civic, political, and cultural life of the municipality. Although originally from Mêda, he settled in Abrantes in 1964. The tribute follows a proposal presented to the Municipal Assembly in 2018 by PSD municipal deputy João Fernandes, which was approved unanimously.

During the unveiling ceremony, Abrantes Mayor Manuel Jorge Valamatos emphasized the importance of recognizing individuals who contribute to the identity and collective history of the region. The ceremony took place during the year marking 50 years of democratic local power.
