Abrantes to donate emergency vehicles to Ribeira Brava
The Municipality of Abrantes, Portugal, will donate an ambulance and a fire engine to the Municipality of Ribeira Brava on the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde. The vehicles, provided by the Humanitarian Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Abrantes (AHBVA), will be transferred permanently and free of charge on November 16 and 17.
The donation includes a 1999 ambulance and a 1996 fire engine. While these vehicles no longer meet the regulatory requirements for service in Portugal, they have been repaired and prepared for operational use by the AHBVA, which covered costs for painting and equipment maintenance. The Municipality of Abrantes will manage the transport costs to Cape Verde and the travel expenses for the accompanying delegation.
The initiative follows a visit by the Mayor of Ribeira Brava to Abrantes in June, during which the urgent need for emergency transport was identified. Currently, Ribeira Brava lacks an ambulance for transporting the injured. During the handover, the Abrantes Fire Commander, André Teodoro, will provide technical training for the use of the new equipment.
