Abrasco holds health sciences congress in Manaus

The 10th Brazilian Congress of Social and Human Sciences in Health, organized by the Brazilian Association of Collective Health (Abrasco), took place from September 15 to 19 at the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) in Manaus. This marks the first time the event has been held in the Northern region of Brazil.

Under the theme ‘Interculturality, Environment, Health: the challenges of the 21st century for a life in connection with territories’, the congress brought together researchers, health professionals, students, and social movements. Discussions focused on building inclusive and democratic health policies that respect cultural differences and the specific realities of various territories, with a particular emphasis on the Amazon region.

Key topics included professional training, permanent education, labor management, indigenous health, and the strengthening of the Unified Health System (SUS). Jérzey Timóteo, deputy secretary of the Secretariat of Labor Management and Health Education (SGTES), participated in debates regarding the link between professional training and the provision of care to meet the concrete needs of different Brazilian territories.
