Abriola Mayor addresses Sellata-Pierfaone environmental seizure

The Mayor of Abriola, Romano Triunfo, has addressed recent environmental concerns and legal actions regarding the Sellata-Pierfaone construction site. While environmental groups and some media outlets have raised alarms over tree removal, Triunfo clarified that the Carabinieri Forestali have only seized a 500-meter section specifically related to the new chairlift site.

The remaining 3-kilometer project continues. According to the Mayor, the tree removal was not indiscriminate but was necessary maintenance to remove diseased plants, as outlined in the 2023 Forest Management Plan and approved environmental assessments. This measure aims to protect the forest from pathogens and ensure public safety.

To offset the impact, the municipality plans to plant local species on an area twice the size of the cleared land. The project also includes dismantling an old ski lift and redeveloping the area. The administration aims to complete the works by December 31 to secure critical funding.
