Abrusco non-profit ceases operations due to subsidy loss
The non-profit organization Abrusco has ceased operations following the loss of regional subsidies. The organization specialized in addressing school dropout rates in both primary and secondary education by improving classroom environments and providing psychosocial guidance to students through individual trajectories.
While the Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie (VGC) provided some resources, they were insufficient to compensate for the loss of regional funding. This led to staff reductions and the eventual shutdown. The tasks previously handled by Abrusco are expected to be integrated into a new, broader non-profit organization designed to serve as a central gateway for intake, recovery-oriented guidance, and expertise. However, concerns remain regarding whether this new entity can replicate the specific individual support and external trust Abrusco established with students.
