Abruzzo councilor calls for emergency response to pine scale infestation

Erika Alessandrini, a regional councilor for the Movimento 5 Stelle, has filed a resolution in the Abruzzo Regional Council to address a widespread infestation of the pine scale, Toumeyella parvicornis.

The infestation is currently affecting 18 municipalities within the Abruzzo region, including Pescara and Pineto. The issue is particularly severe along the coastal areas, where pine forests are vital for biodiversity, temperature mitigation, and air quality.

Alessandrini is calling for immediate extraordinary contributions to the affected municipalities and the establishment of a stable regional management system. The proposal aims to centralize purchasing and accelerate administrative procedures to prevent individual municipalities from having to manage the emergency independently and inefficiently.
