Abruzzo drought: Tankers deployed to water livestock near Gran Sasso
Severe drought in the Abruzzo region of Italy has caused the Vado di Sole springs on the Gran Sasso massif to dry up, leaving mountain watering troughs empty. This has created an urgent crisis for both livestock and wild animals grazing in the high-altitude areas.
In response to an emergency alert from the Municipality of Farindola, the Abruzzo Civil Protection Agency coordinated an intervention to supply water to the area. A water tanker was dispatched from L'Aquila to refill the troughs, an operation coordinated by the volunteer association Pivec. This effort aims to support the local livestock economy and maintain the mountain ecosystem during the prolonged dry spell and high temperatures.
