Abruzzo ensures continuity of emergency air rescue and non-urgent medical services
The Abruzzo Region has announced that the 118 emergency air rescue service will remain fully operational despite two failed tender procedures managed by AreaCom. To prevent service interruptions, the Region, AreaCom, and managers of the Pescara and L’Aquila bases have implemented a reorganization plan.
This plan includes using the current operator's equipment under an expiring contract and an integrated system that can involve support from Lazio, Marche, and Umbria, as well as the Vigili del Fuoco and Guardia di Finanza if necessary. The Region has also adjusted tender conditions, such as aligning tariffs with other regions, to encourage more participation from operators. AreaCom is currently working on a three-year bridge contract.
Separately, ASL 1 has activated the European Harmonized Number 116117 for non-urgent healthcare assistance. This free, 24/7 service provides guidance on territorial health services and access to Continuity of Care (formerly Guardia Medica) during hours when general practitioners or pediatricians are unavailable. It is intended for medical issues that require assessment but do not constitute an emergency.
