Abruzzo faces delays in European fund disbursements

Silvio Paolucci, the Democratic Party group leader in the Abruzzo Regional Council, has announced an inquiry following reports of significant delays in the disbursement of European funds. According to the latest IGRUE Bulletin updated as of April 30, 2026, the Abruzzo region ranks 19th out of 21 regions regarding the percentage of payments made for the FESR and FSE+ programs.

Data indicates that just over 102 million euros have been monitored in payments out of a total of more than 1.087 billion euros programmed for these regional programs. This represents less than ten percent of the available resources. Paolucci noted a decline in the region's standing compared to 2025, when Abruzzo ranked 14th for FESR and 16th for FSE+.

In his formal inquiry, Paolucci is demanding that the Regional Council clarify the political, administrative, and organizational reasons for these delays. He is also seeking information on the effectiveness of acceleration measures announced in 2025 and requesting specific timelines to close the gap with other regions. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the Cohesion Fund, where only 68.78 million euros have been paid out of over 1.06 billion euros programmed for the Abruzzo Cohesion Agreement.
