Abruzzo implements regional fibromyalgia law

The regional law regarding fibromyalgia in Abruzzo, Italy, has officially entered its operational phase. Originally approved unanimously by the regional council in March 2021, the legislation aims to improve diagnosis, prevention, and care for patients suffering from this disabling condition.

Key developments include the establishment of a regional scientific committee and the approval of a resolution governing the regional fibromyalgia registry. Administrative and technical activities are currently underway to make the registry fully functional. Additionally, a working group has been formed to map existing facilities across the territory, a necessary step toward identifying a regional center of reference and specialization.

Vincenzo D'Incecco, a promoter of the law, noted that the initiative seeks to provide dignity and multidisciplinary care to patients who have long faced difficulties due to the condition not being included in the national Essential Levels of Assistance (LEA).
