Abruzzo officials debate funding for municipal and provincial road maintenance
A political dispute has emerged in Abruzzo regarding the maintenance and safety of municipal and provincial roads. Angelo Radica, president of Ali – Autonomie locali Abruzzo, has described the situation as “dramatic,” warning that many roads are becoming impassable and pose a risk to motorists. Radica is calling on the regional government and the national government to allocate significant resources in upcoming financial and budget laws to fund extraordinary maintenance and safety interventions.
In response, Umberto D'Annuntiis, the regional councilor for Infrastructure and Transport, rejected the accusations, labeling them as “demagoguery.” D'Annuntiis argued that the regional government has already allocated substantial funds to municipalities and provinces through various funding lines, totaling approximately 160 million euros. He noted that the regional administration has provided significant support to local communities and that provinces themselves identify the priority areas for road safety interventions.
