Abruzzo opens applications for volunteer guardians of unaccompanied minors

The Abruzzo Region has opened applications for its fifth training course for volunteer guardians of unaccompanied foreign minors. The call for applications, announced by the Regional Guarantor for Childhood and Adolescence, Alessandra De Febis, remains open until October 15, 2026.

Selected volunteers will undergo a 25-hour training program divided into eight sessions starting in late November 2026. The curriculum will involve magistrates, social services, lawyers, psychologists, and cultural mediators. Once trained, guardians will be appointed by the President of the Juvenile Court of L'Aquila to provide legal representation, care, and oversight for up to three minors.

According to De Febis, these guardians are essential for ensuring minors can access fundamental rights, such as school enrollment, residence permits, and protection applications. Candidates must be at least 25 years old, residents or domiciled in Abruzzo, and in possession of full civil and political rights.
