Abruzzo approves 45 million euro plan for electric buses and digital transport

The Abruzzo regional government has approved a 45.1 million euro investment plan to modernize urban mobility through the FESR 2021-2027 program. The funding is split into two primary components: 30.8 million euros for the acquisition of approximately 60 new electric buses and 14.3 million euros for the digitalization of public transport services.

The new electric fleet will serve eight cities, including Pescara, L'Aquila, Chieti, Teramo, Avezzano, Sulmona, Vasto, and Lanciano. These vehicles are designed to be zero-emission, low-noise, and accessible to persons with disabilities. The digitalization initiative aims to allow passengers to purchase tickets online and track bus locations and delays in real-time via mobile applications.

Separately, Confcommercio Abruzzo has called for a structured dialogue with local mayors and Anci Abruzzo regarding urban regeneration. The association expressed concerns over commercial desertification in historic centers and proposed the creation of urban special economic zones to support local businesses and maintain the social vitality of cities.
