Abruzzo Region requests diplomatic support for Italian detainees in Venezuela

The President of the Abruzzo Region, Marco Marsilio, has formally requested the Italian government to increase diplomatic efforts regarding citizens from the Abruzzo region currently detained in Venezuela. In letters addressed to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Marsilio highlighted the long-term suffering and psychological uncertainty faced by the detainees and their families.

The regional administration aims to provide humanitarian support and ensure that families do not feel abandoned during these complex legal and diplomatic processes. Marsilio noted a recent breakthrough where a family member was able to receive a phone call from a detained father, breaking a nine-year period of silence. The region expressed its commitment to working alongside national diplomatic authorities to seek concrete progress and the eventual return of the detainees to Italy.
