Abruzzo Regional Council approves 2026-2028 budget adjustment
The Abruzzo Regional Council has approved the 2026-2028 budget adjustment following a period of intense political tension and technical scrutiny. The decision was reached after the regional majority, led by President Marco Marsilio, introduced an amendment to address concerns raised by the Board of Auditors regarding potential liabilities.
The Board of Auditors had previously issued an unfavorable opinion, citing a lack of certainty regarding the coverage of approximately 56 million euros in potential risks. These risks include roughly 45 million euros related to legal litigation and over 10 million euros in potential liabilities from the Department of Agriculture and AMCO S.p.A.
President Marsilio stated that the amendment aims to incorporate the auditors' observations to ensure the stability of essential services, including public transport, fire prevention systems, and mountain community support. While the majority maintains that the new framework provides sufficient guarantees, opposition members have criticized the management of regional finances, arguing that the budget fails to adequately account for existing debts and risks.
