Abruzzo Regional Council approves infrastructure and budget measures

The Abruzzo Regional Council, led by President Marco Marsilio, has approved several key measures regarding infrastructure, environmental protection, and public housing. Notable infrastructure developments include a 12 million euro project for a new cable car at Monte Piselli, funded by post-earthquake reconstruction commissions, and a new pedestrian cable car in the Coppo dell’Orso–Aremogna area of Roccaraso.

To address housing emergencies, the council approved the reservation of five public residential units across four municipalities for a maximum of two years. Additionally, new conservation measures were adopted for ten Special Areas of Conservation managed by the Gran Sasso–Laga, Maiella, and Sirente–Velino parks to align with European standards.

However, the session was marked by political tension regarding the regional budget adjustment. Despite a negative opinion from the Board of Auditors, the majority moved forward with the approval. Opposition groups, including the Patto per l’Abruzzo, criticized the decision, arguing that the budget adjustment lacked sufficient solidity and expressed concerns regarding the long-term financial stability of the region.
