Abruzzo schools face teacher shortages and digital resource gaps
Educational infrastructure and staffing face challenges in the Abruzzo region of Italy. A recent round of teacher assignments has provided positions for 319 substitute teachers, yet significant gaps remain. Approximately 587 teaching hours across the region are still uncovered, with 151 fragmented shifts (spezzoni) remaining, primarily in middle and high schools.
Simultaneously, a report titled ‘Artificial Intelligence, an Educational Challenge’ by the Observatory on Educational Poverty reveals a lack of digital resources. Only 27.8% of state school buildings in Abruzzo possess a computer lab, a figure significantly lower than the Italian national average of 40.7%. This places the region among those with the lowest availability of dedicated informatics spaces, trailing only Calabria and Lazio.
