Absolute Batman animated series announced with new details by Scott Snyder

Creator Scott Snyder confirmed he will serve as showrunner for the upcoming Absolute Batman animated series, with artist Nick Dragotta as executive producer. The series will not be a frame‑by‑frame recreation of the comic; instead, animation will expand the story, adding scenes and character moments that could not fit in the original pages.

The adaptation reimagines Batman’s origin: Bruce Wayne is presented as a 24‑year‑old working‑class civil engineer rather than a billionaire, while Alfred is a former MI6 agent and the Joker is portrayed as a powerful billionaire. Other classic characters such as Catwoman, Killer Croc and the Riddler appear as Bruce’s childhood friends. Targeted at a mature audience, the show aims to retain the darker tone that made the comic a bestseller.

The project is part of DC Studios’ growing animation slate alongside titles like Joker: Laugh Riot and Krypto. No release date has been announced.
