ABTA issues safety advice as youth overseas travel peaks in August

New research from ABTA indicates that August is the peak month for overseas travel among 18-24-year-olds, with 44% of this demographic having booked or considering a trip during the month. This is significantly higher than the national average of 31%.

Many young travelers are planning trips at the last minute, with 45% of those planning holidays between May and September intending to book within four weeks of departure. Because this period often marks the first time many young adults travel without parents or family, ABTA is providing guidance to ensure safety and preparedness.

Key recommendations for travelers and parents include verifying passport validity against specific destination requirements, securing comprehensive travel insurance, and booking through ABTA members to ensure adherence to a Code of Conduct. Additionally, travelers are encouraged to keep copies of essential information, such as flight details and accommodation addresses, for emergency purposes.
