ABTLP warns of safety risks from digital transport apps

The Brazilian Association of Transport and Logistics of Dangerous Goods (ABTLP) has raised alarms regarding the expansion of digital transport platforms into the hazardous materials sector. The association warns that these platforms may lack the necessary mechanisms to verify if drivers, vehicles, and documentation comply with the rigorous legal and safety requirements essential for transporting dangerous goods.

Oswaldo Caixeta, president of the ABTLP, highlighted the potential for environmental damage and legal consequences, noting that irregularities could lead to criminal liability under environmental crime laws. The concern is underscored by safety data from São Paulo, which recorded 467 accidents involving the road transport of dangerous products in 2025, resulting in 30 fatalities.
