Abu al-Zuhour military airport hit by four air strikes in Syria

Four air strikes targeted the Abu al-Zuhour military airport in the eastern countryside of Idlib province, Syria, on Tuesday. This marks the first reported attack on the strategic facility since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in December 2024.

The aircraft responsible for the strikes have not been officially identified, and the identity of the attackers remains unconfirmed. There were no immediate reports regarding casualties or the specific extent of the damage at the base.

The Abu al-Zuhour airport is a strategically significant installation for monitoring military movements in northern Syria. While several other Syrian airports, including Aleppo International and al-Shairat, have faced previous targeting, this facility had not been struck since the change in government.

The strikes occur alongside significant legal developments in Damascus, where a criminal court sentenced former President Bashar al-Assad to death in absentia for premeditated murder.
