Abu Chowdhury convicted of kidnapping and sexual assault in Queens

Abu Chowdhury kidnapping conviction Queens supermarket owner sexual assault Brooklyn Federal Court

Abu Chowdhury, a 36-year-old supermarket owner from Queens, has been convicted in Brooklyn Federal Court for a series of kidnappings and sexual assaults carried out in 2023. A jury found Chowdhury guilty of three counts of kidnapping and three counts of conspiracy to kidnap.

Prosecutors stated that the crimes were motivated by Chowdhury’s desire to protect his self-proclaimed reputation as the ‘King of New York’ after being mocked on TikTok. The first incident occurred in March 2023, when Chowdhury and accomplices abducted a man, beat him, and forced him to stand naked in the street while being filmed before drugging him.

In May 2023, Chowdhury kidnapped two additional men. During these attacks, one victim was sexually assaulted at a hotel in Long Island City. Chowdhury’s wife, Iffat Lubna, was previously convicted in April for her involvement in two of the kidnappings. Chowdhury faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
