Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League to debut in Italy at Imola Circuit
The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) is set to hold its first international competition outside of Abu Dhabi at the Imola Circuit in Italy. The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 5, marks a significant expansion for the league as it seeks to establish a global platform for autonomous motorsport.
Five autonomous race cars, based on the Dallara Super Formula platform, will compete in the race. These vehicles utilize AI to manage all driving decisions, with the cockpit space typically reserved for a driver replaced by hydraulic actuator kits. The participating teams include two from Italy, two from Germany, and one from the United Arab Emirates.
Stephane Timpano, CEO of ASPIRE, noted that selecting a historic venue like Imola is a major milestone for the project's international ambitions. The competition aims to test the reliability and safety of autonomous technology at speeds of up to 250 km/h in challenging racing conditions.
