Abu Dhabi energy firms Masdar and TAQA secure significant bond issuances

Abu Dhabi-based energy companies Masdar and TAQA have successfully raised substantial capital through bond offerings focused on sustainable and infrastructure development.

Masdar issued a $600 million five-year blue bond, which is the highest-rated public blue bond issued globally by a corporate to date, carrying an AA- rating from S&P and Fitch. The offering was 2.5x oversubscribed, with an orderbook peaking at $1.5 billion. The proceeds are intended for water-related clean energy projects, such as offshore wind, under the company’s updated Green Finance Framework.

TAQA raised $1.75 billion through a dual-tranche US dollar bond issuance consisting of a five-year green bond and a ten-year conventional bond. The total orders for the issuance exceeded $6.2 billion. Of the total funds raised, $850 million is allocated to green projects to support environmental initiatives, while the remainder provides funding flexibility for infrastructure and operational investments in the power, water, and utility sectors.
