Abu Dhabi Enforces Pet Registration Fines After Grace Period Ends
Abu Dhabi made pet registration mandatory in February 2025, giving private owners a 12‑month grace period and businesses a six‑month window to comply. The deadline passed on 3 February 2026, and owners of unregistered cats or dogs now face a fine of Dh 1,000 per animal. Registration is carried out at a licensed veterinary clinic, where the pet is micro‑chipped, vaccinations are verified, and the owner’s details are submitted through the TAMM portal using an Emirates ID and an active UAE Pass. The process is free for individual owners, and pets younger than 12 weeks receive a provisional file number until they complete vaccinations. The Department of Municipalities and Transport says the database will improve vaccination scheduling, reunite lost pets with owners, and reduce stray populations, supporting its broader “Family Space” goal. Separate penalties apply for animal‑welfare violations, with fines up to Dh 5,000 or higher under federal law.
