Abu Dhabi launches Emirati Hospitality Standards for hotels

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi has launched the Emirati Dhiyafa (Hospitality) Standards, a framework designed to integrate Emirati culture, customs, and traditions into the visitor experience. The initiative comprises 65 measurable requirements covering eight stages of a guest's journey, from pre-arrival communication to departure.

Scheduled for implementation across hotels and hotel apartments in the emirate by early 2027, the standards aim to translate cultural values such as generosity, respect, and attention to detail into operational practices. Central to the framework is the concept of ‘Al Sanaa’, a set of social etiquette and customs associated with hospitality and courtesy.

Key elements of the standards include welcoming guests with traditional Emirati coffee and local dates, offering traditional dishes like harees and balaleet, and providing digital resources or staff assistance to educate visitors on the history and heritage of the United Arab Emirates. The program was developed in cooperation with the National Projects Office and supported by the National Identity Committee.
