Abu Dhabi Police issue safety warnings for e-scooter riders

Abu Dhabi Police, in collaboration with the Monitoring and Control Centre, have issued warnings to e-scooter riders regarding safety protocols and designated riding zones. Authorities are urging users to stay within allocated lanes and avoid main roads, crowded areas, and any thoroughfares with speed limits of 60km/h or higher.

To prevent collisions and injuries, the Traffic and Security Patrols Directorate recommends that riders wear protective gear, including helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads. Current regulations specify that riders must be at least 16 years old, passengers are prohibited, and the maximum permitted speed is 20km/h.

Police have also called on parents to supervise children and teenagers using electric scooters, ensuring they understand traffic rules and utilize proper safety equipment. The initiative is part of the Smart Road Safety strategic priority aimed at reducing accidents and fostering a sustainable traffic environment.
