Abu Dhabi Police warn of fines for distracted and reckless driving

Abu Dhabi Police have issued warnings regarding dangerous driving behaviors, highlighting significant fines and penalties for motorists. Authorities noted that watching social media video clips, such as Reels, while driving is classified as distracted driving. This violation carries a fine of Dh800 and four black points. Police emphasized that surveillance cameras have recorded severe accidents caused by drivers being preoccupied with their phones.

Additionally, the police warned against the dangerous practice of reversing on highways after missing an exit. Such maneuvers have resulted in collisions, including an incident where a truck overturned after striking a reversing vehicle. Reversing on a road carries a Dh500 fine and four traffic points, while reckless driving can lead to a Dh2,000 fine, 23 points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment. Officials urge drivers to use the next available exit rather than attempting to reverse.
