Abu Dhabi supermarkets remove junk food from high‑traffic zones

Under the Abu Dhabi Healthy Living programme, the emirate’s supermarkets are being instructed to clear unhealthy foods and drinks from "temptation zones" – the store entrance, aisle ends and checkout counters. The move aims to curb impulse purchases of items such as chocolate, sweets, chips and sugary drinks.

The initiative also expands the front‑of‑pack Nutri‑Mark grading system, which rates products from A ( healthiest) to E (least healthy), and promotes the TAMM app for shoppers to check nutritional information on un‑labelled items. Residents of varied nationalities in Abu Dhabi reported that the visible change makes healthier choices easier and could reduce household spending on impulse snacks.
