Abu Dhabi targets 100 high-consuming industrial facilities for efficiency
The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) is accelerating energy and water efficiency projects through its Industrial Energy Efficiency Accelerator Programme. The initiative targets 100 of the emirate’s highest-consuming industrial facilities to lower operating costs and enhance manufacturing competitiveness.
Six priority industries currently account for 96 percent of Abu Dhabi’s industrial electricity and water consumption. The programme, which operates under the Abu Dhabi Energy and Water Efficiency Strategy 2030, focuses on converting technical efficiency opportunities into practical, viable projects. Early findings from the programme indicate that identified measures offer an average investment payback period of approximately 2.5 years.
A recent stakeholder workshop brought together industrial companies, financial institutions, energy-service firms, technology providers, and government entities to address the technical, commercial, and financing requirements necessary for project implementation. The goal is to move efficiency assessments into active deployment to create economic value and support sustainable growth within the sector.
