Abu Selim Mosque remains preserved by volunteers in Deir al-Balah
Volunteers from the Palestine Heritage Guardians and the Maysam Culture and Arts Association have begun efforts to preserve the remains of the 75-year-old Abu Selim Mosque in Deir al-Balah. The mosque was partially destroyed during an Israeli airstrike on August 24 in the central Gaza Strip.
To facilitate future restoration, volunteers are collecting and securing stones and marble columns from the site. Deir al-Balah Mayor Halil Abu Samra described the mosque as a historical landmark built in 1951 in the Ottoman architectural style. He emphasized the determination of local residents and civil society organizations to protect the site's cultural heritage despite limited resources.
