ABUAD unveils three locally-made herbal medicines
Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD) has unveiled three locally-made herbal medicines: AB Mal, ABUAD Virucidine, and AB Health Animation 250mg. The university presented these products during the AB Pharmaceuticals Business Summit, held in collaboration with pharmaceutical marketers.
Oluwatoyin Afolabi, Deputy Director of AB Pharmaceutical Services, urged Nigerians to reduce their reliance on imported traditional medicines from countries like China and India. She characterized the current dependence on foreign herbal products as a form of economic and medical dependence that must be addressed by leveraging Nigeria’s indigenous medicinal resources and research capacity.
The initiative aims to establish marketing plans to increase the domestic reach of these products and promote national self-reliance in pharmaceutical development. The university emphasized the need to build public confidence in locally produced medicines and strengthen scientific research into traditional remedies.
