Abubakar Sedik, Ahafo Ano South West DCE, dies after brief illness
Abubakar Sedik, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ahafo Ano South West District in Ghana's Ashanti Region, has died following a brief illness. He reportedly passed away on the evening of September 20, 2026, shortly after returning to Mankranso from a meeting in Kumasi with the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga.
Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene described Sedik as an exceptional administrator and a promising politician whose leadership contributed significantly to local development. Residents of Mankranso also paid tribute to him, noting his impact on infrastructure projects including roads, schools, and health facilities.
Prior to his role as DCE, Sedik served as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the constituency during the 2024 general elections. His death follows a period of local controversy regarding a proposed 24-hour economy market in Mankranso; Sedik had recently denied allegations that his administration intended to demolish a school facility to facilitate the project.
