Transmission Company of Nigeria disputes power outage claims
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has issued several rebuttals against electricity distribution companies regarding recent power supply disruptions across the country.
In Abuja, TCN refuted claims by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) that transmission line tripping from the Shiroro Transmission Substation caused a drop in power allocation from 641MW to 314MW. TCN stated the reduction was due to low generation on the national grid rather than line failures.
Regarding the Lekki area, TCN disputed reports from the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDP) concerning a transformer outage. TCN clarified that the disruption was caused by faults on EKEDP’s Oniru and Agungi 33kV feeders, which subsequently triggered the inter-tripping of TCN breakers.
Additionally, TCN dismissed allegations from Kaduna Electric regarding transmission constraints affecting power supply to Jos, asserting that all 330kV lines connected to the region remain in service.
Separately, TCN leadership has called for the establishment of special courts to fast-track the prosecution of individuals involved in the vandalism of critical energy infrastructure, noting that current theft charges do not reflect the severity of attacks on transmission towers and lines.
