Abuja fuel station explosion triggers fire, casualties unconfirmed
A petrol‑laden tanker exploded while discharging fuel at the AYM Shafa filling station in Abuja's Garki district on Thursday night, around 10 p.m. The blast ignited a large fire that quickly spread to nearby structures, including a building of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service.
Firefighters from the Federal Fire Service and the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service were deployed to contain the blaze and protect surrounding commercial properties. Chief Superintendent Ibrahim Muhammad Tauhid confirmed that teams were on the ground fighting the fire, but official casualty figures were not yet available. Residents and motorists fled the area amid panic, and authorities urged the public to stay clear of the scene while investigations into the cause of the explosion begin.
