Abuja Industrial Park to create 40,000 jobs through $300m investment
The Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has announced that the $300 million Abuja Industrial Park is expected to create approximately 40,000 jobs once fully operational. The 250-hectare project, located at Idu Industrial Layout Phase IV, is designed to house more than 170 factories and is intended to boost Nigeria’s manufacturing and export indices.
NEPZA Managing Director Dr. Olufemi Ogunyemi commended Zeberced, the project's management company, for the accelerated pace of construction. He noted that the progress justifies President Bola Tinubu’s decision to license the site as a Free Trade Zone.
However, Ogunyemi raised security concerns following an alleged invasion of the zone by Jiwa youths on August 8. The incident reportedly involved the destruction of a section of the perimeter fence to create an unauthorized access road. Ogunyemi warned that such encroachment undermines investor confidence and stated that NEPZA would not tolerate the destruction or theft of assets within the zone. The authority has alerted the FCT Minister and the FCT Commissioner of Police regarding these security threats.
