Abuja: Man electrocuted during suspected transformer cable theft

A young man suspected of attempting to steal cables from a transformer was found dead after being electrocuted along Trademore Road in Lugbe, Abuja. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday. Witnesses noted the deceased was found in a stiff, crouching position, suggesting he may have been struck by electricity when power was restored to the area following a period of no supply on Thursday night.

The death has highlighted ongoing issues with transformer vandalism in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Local residents reported that they frequently contribute personal funds to repair damaged transformers, only to have vandals return to cut the cables again.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and stated that the body has been moved to a mortuary in Gwagwalada for an autopsy.
