Nigeria Police and NSCDC Crack Down on Infrastructure Theft and Fake Diplomatic Plates

Nigeria’s security agencies have intensified operations against the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure. In Jigawa State, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) recovered streetlight cables worth over ₦1.8 million and launched a manhunt after vandals stole a transformer cable from a school, prompting arrests and a pledge to prosecute all involved.

In the Federal Capital Territory, the FCT Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi, seized numerous stolen assets—including drainage covers, solar street lights, high‑voltage electricity cables and internet cables—while also confiscating fake diplomatic and official vehicle number plates used to evade security checkpoints. Five suspects were arrested for stealing manhole covers, solar lights and armoured cables, and the recovered items are to be handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Administration for reinstatement. The police warned dealers, receivers and buyers of stolen public infrastructure that investigations will continue to dismantle the entire supply chain.
