Abyan Governorate launches coordination council to boost development and citizen services

On Saturday, July 4, 2026, officials gathered at the Qasr al‑Fakhama hall in Ja'ar to introduce a new coordination council for Abyan governorate. The event was attended by social and political leaders, academics, and local staff, and was hosted by Governor Dr. Mukhtar al‑Khidr Abdullah al‑Rabash al‑Heithami.

Lawyer Mazen Al‑Yousfi, Director General of the Khunfar district, explained that the council is a temporary framework that will become permanent after completing consultations across the governorate’s districts. He emphasized that the council will not replace state institutions or compete with local authorities, but will support them in addressing citizen concerns and advancing development and stability. The council aims to be inclusive, bringing together political, tribal, youth, women and other societal groups to channel community needs to the relevant agencies. Ongoing projects such as rehabilitation of irrigation works in Wadi Bana were highlighted as early signs of the council’s development agenda.
