Abyan implements color-coded gas cylinders to curb domestic supply shortages
The Gas and Petroleum Derivatives Committee in Abyan Governorate has launched a field plan to address the domestic gas shortage. The initiative began in the capital, Zinjibar, by painting gas cylinders intended for restaurants, ovens, and commercial shops orange to distinguish them from domestic cylinders.
Yasser Al-Marqashi, advisor to the Governor of Abyan and head of the committee, stated that this measure aims to curb the practice of commercial entities seizing subsidized domestic gas supplies to profit from price differences. The use of orange cylinders allows inspection teams and security checkpoints to visually identify commercial gas during transport, making it easier to detect violations and prevent the diversion of domestic supplies to the black market.
The plan is expected to stabilize supplies for citizens and ensure commercial entities use cylinders specifically designated for their sector at commercial prices. Authorities have coordinated with the Minister of Oil and the Executive Director of the Yemen Gas Establishment to ensure sufficient and continuous quotas for both residential and commercial sectors while enforcing strict oversight on filling stations.
