Abyan teachers appeal for unpaid pension allowances

Teachers in Abyan who have exceeded their retirement age have issued an urgent appeal to the Prime Minister and the ministers of education, civil service, insurance, and finance regarding unpaid annual allowances.

The teachers are demanding the disbursement of annual allowances for the period between 2014 and 2020. They claim these payments were suspended by the Ministry of Civil Service due to issues surrounding the 6% employee pension contribution deduction. The group alleges that despite previous directives from the Minister of Civil Service to grant these allowances, they have been deprived of seven years of increments.

Furthermore, the teachers expressed concerns regarding financial discrepancies, noting that while the 6% pension deduction was halted, a 15% income tax continued to be collected and transferred to the Ministry of Finance until September 2023. They are calling for the immediate settlement of their rights and the resumption of their pension links, noting that they continue to receive salaries through the Abyan Education Office rather than through formal retirement channels.
