AC Milan appoints Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim as head coach
Italian club AC Milan have confirmed the hiring of Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim on a two‑year contract that includes an option to extend for a third year. Amorim, 41, is expected to travel to Milan on 17 June 2026 and sign the agreement by 18 June, bringing with him his trusted coaching team – Carlos Fernandes, Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido and goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital – who have worked with him at Braga, Sporting Lisbon and during his brief spell at Manchester United.
The appointment follows Milan's fifth‑place finish in the 2025‑26 Serie A, which sees the club miss the Champions League and instead compete in the Europa League next season. With midfielder Luka Modrić's contract expiring on 30 June and forward Rafael Leão indicating a desire to leave, Amorim will also need to rebuild key positions. Media reports suggest possible replacements such as Ardon Jashari for Modrić, Christopher Nkunku for Leão, and other young talents like Davide Bartesaghi and Strahinja Pavlovic could feature in the upcoming squad.
Milan’s board see Amorim as the figure to restore the club’s former San Siro glory, replacing former coach Massimiliano Allegri after a season that fell short of expectations.
