AC Milan appoints Sergio Navarro Barquero as Milan Futuro head coach

AC Milan announced that Spanish coach Sergio Navarro Barquero will take charge of Milan Futuro, the club’s Under‑23 side that will compete in Serie D. Navarro, born in Huelva, began his coaching career with the youth teams of Castellón in 2006 and later worked in Russia with Rubin Kazan, returned to Spain at Villarreal, and in 2017 became head coach of Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine. He served as technical collaborator at Levante under Paco López, then led the youth sector of Athletic Bilbao from 2022 to 2025, before most recently managing Debrecen in Hungary. Jovan Kirovski, Milan’s Sports Development Director, said Navarro “combines professional experience with a focus on youth development in an elite European context,” making him ideal for the project’s aim of nurturing talent.

The appointment is part of Milan’s broader strategy to strengthen its youth pipeline and give promising players competitive experience in senior football through the Milan Futuro program.
