AC Milan considers recalling Zachary Athekame from Lyon in January

AC Milan is evaluating the possibility of recalling defender Zachary Athekame from his loan spell at Olympique Lyonnais during the January transfer window. The 2004-born Swiss player has demonstrated significant growth in France, recording two goals and three assists in nine appearances across Ligue 1 and the Europa League.

Manager Rúben Amorim is reportedly seeking reinforcements on the right flank due to tactical requirements in his system. Current options, including Samuel Chukwueze and Omari Hutchinson, have not fully met expectations, and the prolonged absence of Alexis Saelemaekers has further depleted the squad's depth.

Milan has reportedly initiated contacts with Lyon to discuss terminating the loan six months early. While the player's strong performance in France makes a mid-season departure difficult for Lyon to accept, Milan views Athekame as an ideal solution to stabilize the right side of the pitch. If a January move is not finalized, his return to the club is expected to take place in the summer.
