AC Milan hires Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim after Manchester United stint

AC Milan has appointed Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, 41, as its new head coach. Amorim previously oversaw Manchester United for 14 months, a period marked by the club’s worst recent season – finishing 15th in 2024/25 with 11 wins, nine draws and 18 defeats. His tenure ended in January 2026 after the team recorded 25 wins, 15 draws and 23 losses overall. The former Portugal international took the Milan role aiming to bring his preferred 3‑4‑3 system to the Italian side, acknowledging the club’s historic prestige and global fan base. Amorim expressed enthusiasm for the challenge, saying he has long dreamed of coaching “the Rossoneri”.
