AC Milan hires Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim as head coach

AC Milan announced the appointment of Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim as head coach, signing him to a contract running until 2028 with an option to extend for an additional year. Amorim, who previously led Sporting CP to two Primeira Liga titles, a Portuguese Super Cup and three domestic cups, and guided the team to a 4‑1 Champions League win over Manchester City, also spent a brief spell managing Manchester United. The hiring follows a broader restructuring by club owner Gerry Cardinale and senior player Zlatan Ibrahimovic, which also saw the recruitment of technical director Markus Krösche and the creation of a new Head of Football role, with an investment of around €10 million for the technical staff. The decision was approved by five parties – Cardinale, Ibrahimovic, club CEO Massimo Calvelli and two headhunters – marking a significant shift in the club’s strategic direction after a disappointing season and a wholesale change of the previous management team.
