AC Milan pursue Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand as Amorim pushes move

Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim wants to reunite with Danish defensive midfielder Morten Hjulmand at AC Milan for the 2024‑25 season. Hjulmand joined Sporting Lisbon from Lecce in 2023 for €20 million, quickly became a key player and was named club captain. His market value has since risen, and Sporting has reportedly agreed to allow a sale in 2026 for around €45 million, well below his €80 million release clause.

Milan must decide whether to meet that price for a player Amorim knows well and who fits his preferred high‑pressing system, or to consider a cheaper domestic alternative such as Samuele Ricci. Other clubs, including Atlético Madrid, have also shown interest, but the move remains uncertain amid the high cost and Sporting’s mixed commitment.

If completed, the transfer would give Milan a midfielder capable of ball recovery, space‑closing and rapid transition, aligning with Amorim’s tactical plans for the Rossoneri.
