Antonio Silva set to leave Benfica as Milan and Bournemouth vie for defender

Benfica centre‑back Antonio Silva has rejected the club’s contract renewal offer that would have kept him until 2031. With a year remaining on his current deal, the 20‑year‑old has opened discussions with other teams, and his agent Jorge Mendes is handling the move.

Italian side AC Milan, which previously targeted Silva before signing Mario Gila, are again interested, especially after the defender’s decision to leave. The Premier League club Bournemouth are also close to completing a signing, viewing Silva as an upgrade over outgoing centre‑half Marcos Senesi and a bargain compared with inflated market prices.

To replace the departing defender, Benfica have identified 21‑year‑old Ibrahima Ba from Famalicão as a potential successor, a move welcomed by club officials and former Benfica coach Marco Silva.
