Academia Brasileira de Match Race holds training event in Brasília

The Academia Brasileira de Match Race is hosting an event at the Iate Clube de Brasília on Lake Paranoá from Friday to Sunday. This initiative aims to revitalize the Match Race discipline in Brazil through a combination of competition and professional training for sailors and referees.

Following previous stages in São Paulo and Porto Alegre, the Brasília event utilizes Ranger 22 sailboats for direct head-to-head confrontations. The program includes tactical clinics, boat training, and debriefings. Technical lead Tatiana Almeida noted that because the discipline has been inactive for many years, hands-on experience is necessary to teach new generations the specific strategic differences between Match Race and traditional fleet racing.

All races will be officiated on the water following the World Sailing 2025-2028 Racing Rules, specifically applying Appendix C, which governs Match Race regulations. The project is supported by the Confederação Brasileira de Vela.
